Nike Celebrates Kobe Bryant’s Sneaker History With ‘Prelude Pack’

With 5 NBA Championship rings to his name, Kobe Bryant will go down in history as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. The Philadelphia native has come a long way since being drafted and traded by the Charlotte Hornets to Los Angeles for Vlade Divac. After Countless MVP’s, All Star Game selections, and timeless moments, Nike will honor the Black Mamba with the “Predlude Pack”. The pack will include a retro model of every single Nike Zoom Kobe sneaker from 1-8. Through art, the special pack honors the history of Nike’s Kobe Bryant line. Starting 12/7, Nike will release one sneaker each weekend from the pack in order from Kobe 1 to Kobe 8. Each sneaker will retail for $200, and we expect it to be EXTREMELY LIMITED! Check out the entire Prelude Pack Below! My favorite is the Kobe 4.

It’s November; Where Is The Nike Zoom Kobe XI?

Nike Zoom Kobe 9 Wear Test Sample

It’s almost the end of November, and Nike has been reluctant to release any information reguarding the Zoom Kobe XI. The Mamba has been sidelined all year after suffering an injury at the end of last season. Although we have yet to see Kobe on the court, Nike has yet to leak any official images of Kobe’s ninth signature sneaker. That’s where we come in; We dug up some photos of the Zoom Kobe 9 Wear test sample and some other images of speculated designs for the sneakers.

How In The World Is Reebok Getting Away With The ‘For Player Use Only’ Pack?

reebok question packer shoes for player use only pack lebron james high school sneakers

With the help of Reebok, Packer Shoes of Teaneck New Jersey has been cooking up several collaborations on classic RBK basketball silhouettes over the past year. Most notably the “Remember the Alamo” Shawn Kemp Kamikaze II & “Practice” Allen Iverson Question sneakers became instant hits.

Sneaker heads like myself definitely appreciate the creativity Packer Shoes & Reebok bring to the table. Their ability to mix classic sneakers and sports has gone over extremely well with consumers.

This October, Packer Shoes and Reebok teamed up once again for another limited edition sneaker release: The “For Player Use Only Pack”. And honestly I have no idea how they got away with this one!

The ‘For Player Use Only Pack’ features two pairs of Allen Iverson’s Reebok Question Sneakers, one in purple & gold and the other in green & gold. The Reebok sneakers are actually dedicated to 2 of Nike’s biggest signature athletes; Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. Reebok making shoes for Nike athletes, WTF is going on here?!?!

Packer Shoes and Reebok’s inspiration behind their latest collaboration actually comes from the year of 2003. During the time, Kobe Bryant was dealing with some off the court issues (you all remember what happened in Colorado!) The mamba was dropped by Adidas and was considered a Sneaker “Free Agent” at the time. Several brands, including Reebok sent him Promo Player Exclusive sneakers to wear on the court. The purple and gold Reebok Questions were one of the pairs Kobe wore for the Lakers that season; they even featured Kobe’s number 8 on the back of the sneakers where A.I.’s number 3 went.

At the same time, Lebron James was often featured in the national spotlight during his Senior Season at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Ohio. Many sneaker companies were doing their best to persuade the high school phenom to sign with them upon graduation including Reebok, Nike, and Adidas. Similar to Kobe, Reebok sent Lebron a pair of player exclusive Question sneakers featuring “L23J” and decked out in the St. Vincent St. Mary’s colorway.

Neither Lebron James nor Kobe Bryant decided to sign with Reebok in 2003. Flash-forward to the present; Lebron James and Kobe Bryant are on their 11th and 9th Nike signature sneakers respectively. Personally, I love the concept however my question in 2013 is: How the hell are Reebok and Packer Shoes able to release sneakers inspired by Nike signature athletes.

It really makes no sense to me at all. If you’re interested in the sneakers, they release 10/18 on as a package for $300. Check out the pictures of the For Player Use Only pack and let us know what you think; will Nike have something to say about this?

Why Are More NBA Teams Adopting Sleeved Jerseys in 2013-14? The Sleeve Conspiracy

Last season, the Golden State Warriors were the first NBA team to sport the Adidas Revolution 30 sleeved jerseys on the court. Although they only made a few appearances in the uniforms, the Warriors were one of the first NBA teams to wear sleeves on their jerseys since the inception of basketball.

Personally, I found the uniforms to be horrendous and hoped we wouldn’t have to see anything like it on an NBA court ever again. Boy was I wrong!

In 2013-14, at least three more teams will be ditching the traditional tank top jersey. The Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers have all reported they will be wearing the sleeved alternate jerseys this season. The Warriors are also adding a white-sleeved jersey to their uniform arsenal.

I got to thinking, could this all be a conspiracy? We have heard rumors about the Miami Heat & Brooklyn Nets wearing their nicknames on jerseys this season, which is all-fine by me but why would more teams be breaking tradition and adding sleeves to their jerseys? The main reason: MORE ADVERTISEMENT SPACE!!

That’s right; More ad space! David Stern will be stepping down as NBA Commissioner this February and has already entertained the idea of placing sponsorship advertisements on player uniforms similar to European Soccer. After Stern steps down on February 1st, 2014, rumors are circulating new Commissioner Adam Silver likes the idea of having advertisements on player uniforms. Two more sleeves on the jersey equal two more prime spots to place advertisements on!

Jersey aficionados hate the idea of advertisements being plastered on uniforms and I don’t blame them! The combination of sleeved jerseys and advertisements could usher in the historic downfall of NBA Uniform popularity and possible interfere with jersey sales. The NBA might want to rethink this one.

Check out the Los Angeles Lakers “Hollywood Nights” Black Alternate Jerseys for This Season

And I thought the Los Angeles Lakers were crazy when they unveiled their white alternate uniforms during the early 2000’s! It appears the Lakeshow will be sporting all black alternate uniforms during the 2013-14 season. The “Hollywood Nights” uniforms pay homage to the long-time LA Laker fan base and to the Hollywood industry workers who often work behind the sceenes.

The Lakers will wear the “Hollywood Nights” alternate jerseys a few times this season. Be sure to look out for them. What do you think of their new alternate jereseys?
